Endocrinology
The Endocrine Division has vigorous clinical programs, scholarship opportunities, and provides subspecialty training.
Overview
The Division of Endocrinology was established at The Warren Alpert Medical School Medical School and its affiliated hospitals in 1984. The core clinical staff members of the Division are a diverse group, providing outpatient and inpatient care and consultative services in endocrinology and diabetes at Rhode Island Hospital, Brown Medicine and the Providence Veterans Administration Hospital. Affiliated endocrinologists provide patient care services at The Miriam Hospital. In addition to patient care services, the Endocrine Division has vigorous clinical programs, scholarship opportunities, and provides subspecialty training in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism through an ACGME-certified clinical fellowship program. The Division also conducts teaching programs for The Warren Alpert Medical School Medical School students, medical residents, Johnson and Wales Physician Assistant students, plus CME programs for medical professionals.
The goals of the Division of Endocrinology are:
- To provide the best possible care for all patients with diabetes and other endocrine diseases.
- To take a leading role in introducing new approaches to disease prevention and management.
- To involve patients in their effective disease management through educational programs.
- To pursue scholarship in diabetes and other endocrine diseases that will increase our understanding of causal mechanisms and help define new approaches to treatment.
- To provide an effective educational environment and mentors for medical students, medical residents, and fellows in the field of endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism.

Fellowship Program
The Clinical Fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University is an ACGME-certified program that provides a strong training experience in clinical endocrinology, and exposure to endocrinology research and scholarship. We aspire to help our fellows experience and manage a wide range of diverse patients with endocrine disorders. The Fellowship is a two-year program that is particularly appropriate for individuals interested in a career in clinical practice or as a clinician educator.
Research & Scholarship Programs
There are extensive opportunities for participation in clinical research and scholarship programs in the Division of Endocrinology. Both faculty and fellows engage in research activity. Recent and current research in the division includes: bone and mineral studies, projects on early Graves’ hyperthyroidism, and COVID-19 effects on Diabetes.
Additionally, the division engages in a myriad of other scholarly activities, including quality improvement projects, case reports, book chapters, and academic presentations for local, regional and national meetings.
