Electrophysiology Fellowship

Our fellowship offers exposure to a diverse range of pathologies. Our aim is to provide fellows with a rigorous and undiluted training experience.

The Brown Clinical Electrophysiology Fellowship is a two-year ACGME-accredited program. We are currently seeking one PGY-7 trainee for the 2025 recruitment cycle. As the sole tertiary care center in Rhode Island, Rhode Island Hospital boasts one of the highest device and ablation volumes in the Northeast region. Our fellowship offers exposure to a diverse range of pathologies. Recognizing the technical nature of electrophysiology, our aim is to provide fellows with a rigorous and undiluted training experience.

Program Description

Our program spans two training campuses: Rhode Island Hospital and the Miriam Hospital. Fellows have the opportunity to rotate through both campuses. Rhode Island Hospital features three dedicated electrophysiology labs, including two labs with biplane fluoroscopy and one newly built lab equipped with the latest mapping software system/equipment. Additionally, there is a hybrid lab with EP capability in the OR and an updated CIED/LAAO-capable hybrid lab. The Miriam Hospital has its own dedicated electrophysiology lab for ablations and devices. Our team consists of five experienced electrophysiology faculty who work closely with fellows. We also have dedicated advanced practice providers (PAs and NPs) who assist with inpatient and outpatient care. Our annual procedure volume exceeds 700 ablations and 600 device implantations. During the first year of training, fellows can expect to achieve competency in common procedures. There are opportunities to participate in a wide variety of novel/advanced procedures, including leadless pacemaker implantation, His-bundle/left bundle pacing, left atrial appendage occlusion device implantation, cardio neural ablation, lead/device extraction, and epicardial access/ablation.

Curriculum

The EP fellowship program focuses on equipping fellows with the skillset necessary for their future careers through comprehensive training. Fellows are expected to actively participate in most cases to gain valuable hands-on experience. In addition, they will rotate through EP clinic and EP consults to solidify clinical management competency. The educational program during the fellowship include:

  • EP core curriculum (didactic sessions)
  • Clinical case presentations
  • Morbidity and mortality discussions
  • Journal club participation
  • EKG conferences
  • EP board reviews
  • Participation in the local symposium/conference
  • Research presentations at national meetings (HRS, ACC, AHA)
  • Research publications
  • Full day outpatient clinic
  • Exposure to cutting-edge EP technology
